Young talent Cameron Green has powered to his highest first-class score as Western Australia frustrated Tasmania with the bat early on day two of their Sheffield Shield match.
Green, who brought up his third century of the season late on Monday, was unbeaten on 158 as WA were all out for 371 in their first innings.
The 20-year-old prodigy, touted by many as Australia’s long-term Test allrounder, struck 19 fours and two sixes in the mature 283-ball knock.
Green’s score eclipsed his 126 against South Australia and unbeaten 121 against Queensland from earlier this summer.
He has 617 runs for WA this season, the second most, at an average of 77.12.
In reply, Tasmania survived half an hour to reach 0-13 at lunch.
Green resumed on Tuesday in Hobart on 105 and with WA at 6-291 but he quickly lost partner Joel Paris (10) to Shield debutant Nathan Ellis, who finished with 3-120.
Tigers’ quick Sam Rainbird picked up two tail-end scalps, including a stubborn Matthew Kelly (20), and was the pick of the quicks with 5-77.
Batting at No.5, Green stabilised WA on day one after they fell to 3-43 having been sent in on a Bellerive Oval green top.
He shared a century stand with fellow young talent Josh Philippe, who was the next best for the Warriors with 63.
Green sprung to prominence as a 17-year-old in 2017 when he took 5-25 against Tasmania on debut in the Shield but he hasn’t bowled in recent months due a stress fracture in his back.
