Yes , Charlie . that’s why i felt obliged to help Hawthorn pay Clarko the $900,000 he got for not working for them anymore. So i spent $78 on a beanie and a cap at the Hawks’ shop and i hope that helps. The beanie proved useful a couple of weeks ago when i went to the G with a group of Collingwood supporters. (And it’s 100% wool, bonus.)

Seeing you ask , Don … upgrade Bellerive and York Park rather than the spending squillions on the new stadium most Tasmanians don’t want , and the Devils can play half their home games in Hobart and half in Launceston. With Tassie’s North-South divide – silly as it seems to us mainlanders- the Northerners won’t go to Hobart for games.

Not so fascinating , Cameron , i suggest. Gold coast population has large proportion of retirees and transients. The retirees from Vic. continue to support their old club. The transients are just that. There might be some younger families and single people supporting the Suns , but not nearly enough. See how a few weeks ago when the suns played the Pies there were more C’wood supporters there than Suns fans. Gold Coast Titans sitting 11th out of 17 teams and Suns 14th out of 18 . And that’s around where they’ll both stay for the forsseeable , i reckon.

Quite so , Don. I’m still steaming at her comment early this season when she called Hawthorn’s rebuilding process “tanking.” And that pompous dill Damien Barett agreed with her. For mine , i’m not too unhappy the club i support is now down the bottom of the ladder. The club that’s won 13 Flags all in my lifetime. And i’d even prefer a Saints Flag before another one.

Sadly , andrew , millions of Poms do take them seriously since they watch them on television. If they weren’t rating they wouldn’t get advertisers. Doesn’t say much for their viewers’ IQ’s , but there you are.

One pertinent incident that’s been overlooked in this latest furore is Robinson’s vulgar obscenity-laden send-off of Uzzie after his 141 at Edgbaston. And Stokes supported him , saying it showed Robinson’s “competitiveness.” Robinson himself called it “passionate.” How was this ever part of the spirit of cricket you pasty Pommy hypocrites? If Robinson had apologised the next day , saying he’d got carried away in the moment , fair enough. Or if at the time he’d said “Well played , but good to get you out,” also fine. But no , he doubled down and his hero captain excused him. (At least Joe Root had the civility to pat Uzzie on the shoulder. As a fair player he was most likely embarrassed at that tool Robinson’s ugly outburst.)

Caroline Wilson needs to pull her head in. Her pronouncements often way out of order. Early this year both she and that other pontificator Damien Barrett said the Hawks were tanking when they’re obviously re-building with the youngest and least experienced team in the League. Hawks don’t need more high draft picks anyway – they’ve got the right players , they just have to develop them and sign them up on long-term contracts.

Unbelievable b.s. from Barrett and Wilson to accuse Hawthorn of tanking. The young mids have been going ok without Mitchell and O’Meara and getting valuable experience making them develop quickly. Hawks have also NOT had a CHF since the Gunston they were counting on left unexpectedly and against Hawks’ wishes , and no FF all year with Lewis injured in pre-season. The young Hawks are improving without winning and will make the eight next year .

Tim O’Brien is a forward and should never be played as a defender. Hawthorn took too long to work that out ; looks like the Dogs are repeating the mistake.

Yes and yes again @Nick. When this old fart was a kid we had no trouble watching black and white television Pies vs. Roos matches. Here’s an example

My Bulldogs supporter mate loves his team in white. The jumper i dislike is the Bombers all red get-up. Would be better to do the reverse colour thing like Richmond. Would still be mostly red but at least broken up a bit.

Wasn’t Buddy given a ten year contract when he joined the Swans? As a Hawks supporter super-grateful for the nine years he’d given Hawthorn i thought at the time ten years was at least one if not two years too long. But he’s contracted and that’s why he’s still being selected and still playing. The Swans could always not select him but they’d have to keep paying him.

“Lethal” Leigh Matthews’s other nickname at Hawthorn was “Barney,” after The Flinstones character Barney Rubble. Another good one at Hawthorn was the nickname given Gary Ayres. Now with respectable short grey hair , but in his playing days sported a flowing black mullet. For that , and what coach Allan Jeans described his “good in heavy traffic” playing style he was called “Conan the Barbarian.”

Hawks beating last year’s wooden-spooners not a huge surprise , but beating last year’s premiers next game would be. Much as i’d like to see it i doubt very much it will happen.

Agree with everything you say except the praise for tom Papley. To me he’s the most irritating player going round since Hayden Ballantyne. Totally up himself. Can’t stand him.

Clash strips were introduced purely as a marketing ploy for more merch. sales. I’m an old fart who along with everyone else at the time watched footy on black and white (grey , really) tv. We had no trouble distinguishing teams. Collingwood and North presented slight difficulty , but then it was black shorts for the home side and white for away , and since almost all players wore long socks kept up , the Pies black socks and North’s striped ones. The umpire in white shirt and shorts (and black socks like Collingwood’s, lol) No trouble at all distinguishing other teams , except maybe Richmond and Essendon, but like the players we managed. I’ll end this rant back where i started- clash strips are about money and that’s IT.

Good for you , Jamarra , but how’s the irony? Thirty years ago St. Kilda’s Nicky Winmar confronts racists at Collingwood , but now it’s a St. Kilda supporter offending. A young guy not alive 30 years ago – he should be made to go and see Nicky Winmar who would have some good advice for him.
