Stuart gave me permission to post most of an article I sent in, of all the ones I am illustrating this is maybe the worst but its still my point why can’t this be posted its essentially the thoughts of a couple of non Football fans on the WWC.
…..
League & AFL fan reaction to the WWC.
I want to discuss IMO one of the biggest gains emanating the WWC. It’s to do with the perception of Football.
Two mates, Peter a hard core rusted on RL Wests Tiger fan & Ian a hard core rusted on AFL Swans fan.
Peter, has always in a general sense watched Football, all the big once every four years Men’s WC final qualifying matches and some Men’s WC matches, Ian never really watched but started from the Canada game.
Some basic things impressed them and I am surprised they made it such a point. They were hugely impressed with the match officials, commenting on how consistent and mistake free on the whole the match officials where. Second the media commentary they saw as brilliant, in that they called what was going on and never went over and over potential mistakes or rule interpretations.
As a side note to the above, they believed the short statement by the ref on VAR decisions, i.e No 2 hand ball, again was very informative, straight to the point and made a lot of sense.
Peter in particular who has Optus watched most games, and he followed the Matilda’s closely, he told me he has a new understanding of Football he has never had before. He now understands Football is not soft, and it’s very fast. But most of all he understands how difficult it is to score and the excitement a goal produces.
Peter, even said some RL games appear slow compared to the speed in the WWC. He also conceded he saw hardly no one dive, essentially most that went down were real.
Ian, the Swans fan, had never watched a Football game before, what impressed him aside from the officials was the excitement of low scoring which he never believed possible
Both said they were amazed at the speed of the games, and how it was in one half and then the other, and both were impressed at the skill and ball control.
Ian [42], the AFL fan, made an interesting comment, and remember he had never watched a Football match before. Ian said the lack of time the player with the ball has to attempt a goal and the defensive structures protecting the goal he found hhhhmmmm searching for the right words or word fascinating. He said by comparison AFL players had an age to attempt a goal.
Fundamentally, they now understand Football, a lot better than they did before. Meaning the stereotyping of Football as soft, slow, reparative and so on has been replaced by an appreciation of the game.
Why do I think this is so important, because without the perceived stereotyping, much of the criticism goes out the window, and for those under 40 it will more than likely never be a problem in the future.
I asked both whether they would take a interest or watch local women’s or men’s games from the A-L. Ian said unlikely but he would start watching the Socceroo’s and Matilda’s, Peter said he may, so I invited him to accompany me to a Mariners match and he accepted.
How representative Peter and Ian are of their respective codes I can’t say. Having said that neither before the WC, had little knowledge or appreciation of Football and they do now, which I think is a massive achievement.

Thanks, just read your post will post something as new.
The world's noticing Australia's football talent - maybe some of our locals should too
Not fair to either Mike or Stuart have asked both for no reply so I assume the answer is no, and don’t want to get either of them into trouble or highjack their article.
Whats funny is I have been on this site from when it started and arguably articles have put up have received a lot of replies …
Since the new management took over, to me anyway there has been a total change in whats put up and a fall in post numbers as well…
The world's noticing Australia's football talent - maybe some of our locals should too
Since the A-L started in 2006, we have hardly made a dent in the AFL, NRL, Cricket dominance, even Super Rugby which when we started was quite strong is now a shadow of its former self.
Yet the quality played, and the improvement in Footballs stands by most A-L teams today is much higher than 2006.
I often feel we have a mega to massive perception pertaining to the quality of the A-L, its far better than its perceived to be.
At the same time i.e. 2006 when we started, Japan, China, USA, and more recently the Saudi’s, and lets not forget the money on offer in India today, all these leagues have expanded a lot especially financially, and competition size, since 2006.
IMO our way out of our current hole is to double the crowd to an average of 15K per match, within 3 years, this is how the MLS grew, they kept fans happy its a topic in itself how they did it…. but to date can’t be published…
Assume 16 teams, 30 rounds, so 240 games @ 15K, thats 3.6 million people, at $ 10.00 average ticket thats 36Mil, @ $ 20.00 its 72 Mil, @ $30.00 its 108 Mil…. plus increased sponsorships, an merch sales..
We need to grow teams and crowds, its obvious, the how we grow teams, and do our Admins have the collective skill set to grow crowds is open for discussion.

Sent something in last Wednesday, still not up and history tells me won’t be posted. Would you mind if I posted it as a post and let others tell me whats wrong.
The world's noticing Australia's football talent - maybe some of our locals should too
The sad thing is we hardly ever appreciate what we have and many assume ifs it here its second, third or fourth class…
The perception of the quality of Australian Professional Football, with each poor play highlighted and shown as self fulfilling proof of poor quality.
Our media on the whole are very negative and sometimes seem incapable of writing positive articles.
Can’t see it changing…

know how you feel, not sure why but from the new ownership the stuff I send in only has at best a 50 / 50 chance of getting put up and often as you said when put up is out of sight….
Sacré bleu! Is Ligue 1 the most underrated league in world football?
Would be sad as he is better than being coach of Hibs, and he won’t have the respect and time he gets in Australia due to his long career from Sydney United, Northern Spirit, Mariners, SFC…..
I always believed Arnold has a unique understanding of the levels in Australian Football, and he could finish his career by taking on an Admin position with clear aims….
Arnold 'keen to consider' club job as Socceroos boss firms to follow Ange to Scotland
agree Mike
Mike request and question, last Wednesday I sent an article to the Roar.
Like a number recently its not put up and if history is anything to go by it won’t be put up. Would you mind if I post the article as post on here and others can advise why they thing the mods won’t post.
Sacré bleu! Is Ligue 1 the most underrated league in world football?
They will find something
FIFA total bunch of rankers: Despite making World Cup semi-finals, Matildas DROP out of top 10
Perth has a 20 to 22 K stadium … shared
Adelaide has a 16 K stadium… not shared
Melbourne has a 28 K stadium… shared
Sydney, has a 20 shared stadium, a 32 K shared stadium & a 50k shared stadium,
Central coast has a 20 K, shared stadium
Newcastle has a 24K, shared stadium,
Queensland has only a 52K stadium, for a city of its size the lack of a 18 to 24K stadium, given the fall in rugby crowds a shared Union & Football stadium around the 18 to 24 K would make a lot of sense.
Queensland to celebrate Matildas' legacy with funding boost - but most of it is already going to Rugby and AFL
Craig Foster wrote a couple of weeks back back that part of the issue with funding is the other codes go to governments with one voice only whereas in Football each state mounts its own case…
The egos between the states, is huge, is it time for this all to be given to FA by the states to negotiate a national deal…
Queensland to celebrate Matildas' legacy with funding boost - but most of it is already going to Rugby and AFL
Sheek
The rating world over, and crowd reactions and support for national teams has caught everyone by surprise… I don’t think anyone predicated this outcome… fan sights world over…. mega to mega increase in ratings….
The quality of most games was incredible… the skill levels match anything male teams can do… and the drive and passion the women played with was there for all to see…
I note today the Wallaroo’s are saying AR is ignoring them and looking for better conditions and using the WWC as there proof that they are worth investment.
It's time for football in Australia to grow up and stop being so naïve
amazing especially when pre WC logic of the Australian media was the AFL would wipe the WC off the screens…
It's time for football in Australia to grow up and stop being so naïve
To much to take in.
I am amazed at how successful the WWC, has been….. I doubt anyone predicated it….
The changes it will bring will not be noticed at professional level, i.e. W & M, A-L’s….as AFK & NRL & Cricket will still dominate this space…
What will change forever is the stereotyping of Football by other codes and the media in general especially the under say 40…
Interesting the AFL Sunday game, 210k capital city, the WWCF 2 million….
Have a lot more to say, but way to much for a single post.
TBH I am amazed at its success…
It's time for football in Australia to grow up and stop being so naïve

Gustavsson's gamble: Hold 'em against England, or go all in on Sam Kerr?
Heard a rugby league journalist on 9 yesterday, say … how can RL piggy back off the Matilda’s… wonder aloud how many other sports are thinking the same way…
Albo can stick his public holiday - funding Australian football fairly is a far better idea
interesting times ahead
Albo can stick his public holiday - funding Australian football fairly is a far better idea
Was watching the Ch 10 news tonight and as per usual they led the sports segment with AFL, and what struck me listening to a coach’s comments and a couple of players was the language, and I am going from memory the coach said player X he as hard as they come and he can run thu etc etc… a player said player Y was a tough nut….. another player said player Z was fast hard and tough….
Watched ch 9 news as well… they covered the WC is an early segment but when the sports but came on it was similar, journalist said player A could run thu the pain get needled up [for gods sake I near fell of my chair get needled up] another player was hard…..
It dawned on me and maybe I am wrong, but it dawned on me the Australia sports followers have been conditioned to value physical strength, speed, toughness and willingness to play thu pain and also inflict pain and hurt on other players…
This in part was an issue where Football was seen as being to soft….
Until that mindset is changed Football will struggle….
Some Ange ball at Tottenham somehow this skill would be less valued over a gut busting run belting players out of the way…. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9xHt4T-0Nk4&ab_channel=SpursAccess
'I’ll be supporting whoever plays against Australia': Are people engaging with the Women’s World Cup, or just along for the ride?
can only be good for the league if Brisbane return to form.
Whisper it quietly, but Brisbane Roar should be contenders under Ross Aloisi
