Which reminds need to go back & revisit Veep, seriously one of the funniest shows. Depending on how the Wallabies go may be in desperate need of some humour.
Enjoy the opportunity, debutants – I’m not sure how many more there will be as Wallabies enter must-win mode
RA were smart investing in 7s in the lead up to Rio Olympics, got the reward with a Gold medal. Now women’s 7s get funding from the AIS. The women’s 7s program have received from the AIS a 39% increase for a total of $2.5m p.a. in preparation for Paris.
The Wrap: Why Rugby Australia’s women problem isn’t going away any time soon
Quality article on a challenging issue, Geoff. Very much agree on your comment does RA have an ‘authentic desire’. As you say the players realise there aren’t the funds. I summarise it all with the 3 Rs, respect, recognition & remuneration. The players realise remuneration is not possible until there are more funds, so RA needs to demonstrate respect & get the players some recognition.
Also think it is most enlightening that RUPA have not come out with a comment. That in itself does not show much respect for the Wallaroos

Have to feel for Carter Gordon, not just have to run the game, but has the added pressure of kicking goals. When missing goals must impact your confidence. A lot for a young fly half.
Studs and duds: Eddie's 'wrongheaded' selections, Carter '100 percent a concern', 'weapon' fires at last
Hadnt read your post, I didn’t need to make a comment, agree exactly with your comment. All a bit of lip service.
'It has been impossible': When it comes to his 'secondary' job Eddie Everywhere has been more like the invisible man
Have some empathy for Eddie. No one realistically thought he would have much hands on involvement with the Wallaroos. This is probably an example of what the Wallaroos were talking about. RA saying Eddie would have oversight they would have thought that’s a bit exciting but it didn’t come to anything. Just some lip service.

Already have Santos as a sponsor, so think the mining sponsor is locked up.
RA's 'devastating, no substance' response to Wallaroos shows exactly why rugby is being left behind
A bit early to say. I think England only started investing a couple of years ago, NZ started last year.

Yes the women are full time professional. Interestingly there are more women contracted in the 7s program than men. I would also guess Charlotte Caslick is the highest paid player, men’s or women. Not sure if it is still the case but the minimum initial contract for new players is the same for both the men & women.

Terrific article. Great descriptor of Kellaway calm & collected. He has footy smarts. When Gordon started I thought they had to select Kellaway for the Rebels combo & a familiar voice. As for Wright, I’m still a fan but agree his attack is less needed now, Kellaway is a more appropriate option.
ANALYSIS: How lost soul re-emerged to become Eddie's Wallabies 15 - and the surprising back-up who could still star
Just my 2cents whilst agreeing with you philosophically, I can’t quite agree in practical terms. You can’t know if you have a sellable product until you invest & develop it. New businesses/start ups have a product or an idea & need $$ to see if it is viable. Then benchmarks to see if there will be further investment from investors. The idea women’s rugby must have the revenue streams to sustain itself from the get go isn’t realistic in business terms.
RA's 'devastating, no substance' response to Wallaroos shows exactly why rugby is being left behind
Good to see you pop over the rugby fence Mary. I think the Wallaroos have shown a lot of patience no doubt based on what RA has said is going to happen but they haven’t delivered. RA probably made the mistake of over promising & it got to the point the players had had enough, which is fair enough. Putting aside the financial aspects eg remuneration, the big mistake RA made was ignoring the Wallaroos in terms of demonstrating to them they are valued. RA have been big on the lip service. That doesn’t just mean pay, lots of people work in jobs where they love the job & feel valued. Unfortunately the statement RA put out seemed more like lip service but will be happy to be proven wrong.
RA's 'devastating, no substance' response to Wallaroos shows exactly why rugby is being left behind
Funny you should say that. If you are on Twitter check Gold Digger he actually got ChatGPT to write a statement for RA it was pretty good, it came across more genuine than Rugby AU’s statement.
RA's 'devastating, no substance' response to Wallaroos shows exactly why rugby is being left behind
In all seriousness it’s not much of a response, looks like a statement they probably made a couple of years ago ‘ we have work to do, we are aiming to do more’ with a couple of tweaks referring to RUPA. Not sure if the issue is that the Wallaroos aren’t really important or they have a poor Comms/PR team. How you can make a statement on a pretty topical issue without a quality from the CEO or other named Exec is baffling. Appreciate Phil Waugh has a lot of issues to address, arguably more important than the Wallaroos but it was a terrific opportunity as a new CEO get on the front foot to demonstrate some real leadership.
'Taking steps': RA responds to Wallaroos' social media anger over WAGs and funding gap
The funny thing is a lot of the Wallaroos play for Sydney Uni, maybe half a dozen on the weekend & Sydney Uni is Phil’s club

That might a little too transparent
Cattle class-flying Wallaroos blow up at RA's double standards, question big money Suaalii move
It seems the issue is as much about trust as anything else. RA saying one thing but not backing it up with actions. They can’t say it publicly they should have said to the women players years ago, sorry we can’t fund you & nothing is going to change for X years, we understand if you want to consider other opportunities. If you want to continue with rugby we will support you as best we can but it’s not a priority.

Was thinking the same. The RA having to brief him. It is way out of his wheelhouse. Fortunately he can use the I have been overseas the last 5 years so not aware of all the current issues in Oz rugby.

How Rugby AU didn’t see this issue coming especially in light of the Matildas is astonishing. Would loved to have been a fly on the wall at RA’s offices this afternoon. Have to laugh, they will have to be briefing Eddie and Will Skelton, just what Eddie will want.

Have absolutely no idea what you are referring to but that’s fine.
Doubts of a Wallaby: The maligned cross-code star who fought through tears to make Eddie's RWC campaign
Thanks Christy. Maybe I’m just too cynical these days.

Who happens to also have Fijian heritage too.
Doubts of a Wallaby: The maligned cross-code star who fought through tears to make Eddie's RWC campaign
Hope he plays well, it’s not his fault he has been selected over other players. Interesting that SMH has a profile on him as well today, am guessing it is an RA strategy to improve his profile with rugby fans as he has been selected & getting paid a few $$$.
Doubts of a Wallaby: The maligned cross-code star who fought through tears to make Eddie's RWC campaign
At the end of day, rightly or wrongly, the selections have been made. Eddie knows it’s on his head & only good results at the World Cup will take off the pressure on him & the team. I do agree we need to stop looking back, we all know there have been poor decisions & management by Rugby AU over the years. In reality we need a reset & that includes a reset of our expectations.
Eddie was right about one thing in epic spray - the Wallabies must stop being reactive and accepting of mediocrity
He may as well give it a crack, not sure how will go. At least he will be able to put in the time to train and a few tournaments to see whether he is up to it.
